Week 2: Reflection 2

Many of us are still confused!! A website, a search engine, a web directory, search directory or crawl ??

The more I think the more confused I get, but all can be solved with reading.

Here are some answers from http://wiki.answers.com

"A search engine is a website, but generally speaking, a seach engine wouldn't normally provide answers straight away. You enter a search term and it brings up a number of pages which it thinks are applicable to your search terms. Search engines crawl through websites using computers to make an electronic copy of website (Also known as cache).Well, a website is something you already know how to get on and where to go, which is typing the URL into the little space provided. A search engine helps you find an appropriate website for something you are looking for but don't know the URL but still need to find what you are looking for. After you type it into a search engine a bunch of URLs will pop up and you click on the 1 you think is most helpful."

"As per my knowledge search engine is a computer function which serves huge amount of different web pages according to user's quires. Website: It is a collection of web pages which can be seen on
internet by typing URL."

"Search Engine just search inside index, without understand what you looking for and what exist inside the indexed documents, on other hand Answer Engine like Kngine (http://www.Kngine.com try to understand what this page speak about and extract information, so when you answer question like: UK Capital, Who is the director of Wanted, How many people live in Seattle, What is the distance  between London and Berlin he will provide direct and simple answer so you will not need to search and pore through the results."

A meta-search engine is a search tool that sends user requests to several other search engines and/or
databases and aggregates the results into a single list or displays them according to their source. Metasearch engines enable users to enter search criteria once and access several search engines simultaneously.
